When I was a young boy, I always had difficulties with reading and writing.

These two crucial things to learn as a child took me longer than most kids, and I fell behind in my early years.

Boogie Board Jot eWriter (JT0220002) A Review

To this day, I still wonder how my life would have changed if I had the Boogie Board Jot eWriter (JT0220002) or any of today's excellent electronics tablets.

If I didn't have excellent teachers surrounding me, I do not know what I would have done.

My parents and my teachers cared for me, and when I was in Grade 4, I finally had a breakthrough.

Children Stuff

I can't tell you what exactly it was, or why it happened later, but something clicked in my brain, and I started reading more than anyone in my class. Since then, I have been such a bookworm and an avid writer.

The reason I am telling you this is that every child, particularly in the early stages of their life, learns differently.

Even though they may seem like they are falling behind, you just cannot give up on them. The moment you give up is the time they will give up in themselves.

Helpful Learning Tools

Nowadays, there are so many technological tools that can be used to teach children how to read, write, do the math, and draw. One of those tools that are now being introduced at a young age is the Boogie Board.

The Boogie Board Jot eWriter (JT0220002) is like a modern day Etch-A-Sketch, but much more advanced with lots of technology going into it.

The Boogie Board uses a liquid crystal display (LCD) system that allows children to use a stylus to draw pictures.

The screen can sense pressure, and if your child presses hard, they will create thick lines, and if they are gentle, thin lines will be produced.

Screens can usually be cleared in the click of a button, and some even come with an eraser tool. An unusual aspect of the Boogie boards is they make you feel like you are using a pencil or pen on paper.

It feels real and still trains your children to write brilliantly without wasting any paper. This pen and pencil feeling is one of the biggest bonuses with using a Boogie board: they are paper free!

A Paperless Environment

Think of when you were growing up, how much coloring and lined paper you wasted. Now, with the entire world trying to be more environment-friendly, Boogie boards are a fantastic way to cut down on paper, while still teaching your children how to write their letters.

I know many parents concerned with the fact that their child may know how to type, but they will lose the sense of writing with their hands.

The Boogie Board Jot eWriter (JT0220002) combines electronics with writing with your hands, and provides you with the opportunity to expand your child's mind and get them into reading and writing!

With so many brands to choose from, it can be hard to know which one to buy and which ones to avoid. One brand that you can buy is the Boogie Board Jot eWriter.

The Boogie Board Jot eWriter (JT0220002) comes with a variety of features to meet all your creative and schooling needs. These functions include:

  • State-of-the-art LCD technology makes you feel like you are writing on paper using a pen
  • The stylus is pressure-sensitive, so you can draw thin or thick lines depending how much pressure you apply
  • Comes installed with a magnet on the inside, allowing you to put it on refrigerators, filing cabinets and other surfaces that are made of metal
  • The back is soft to the touch, making it easier to hold and more stable when you are writing or drawing
  • The stylus is tapered and can also be a stand to look at your writing horizontally
  • Incredibly thin, very light, and made of sturdy, durable material
  • The battery is a replaceable coin cell and allows you to have up to 50,000 erasures
  • There is an erase-lock switch, preventing accidental erasing an image or words you don't want to
  • 8.5”
  • Comes with a user’s guide

  • Easy to take mobile
  • Pressure sensitive
  • Affordable price

  • Cannot save files
  • Not enabled for Bluetooth
  • Not compatible with other devices
  • Erase function stops working after a while
  • Writing is always in bolder format

Educational products all go down to personal preference. Before you buy any technological device (or any Boogie board for that matter) take note of your child's learning level and purchase a tool that will help them at that stage.

If you buy a product that is too hard for them to learn, they will have a hard time adjusting to it and only not use it. Buy a product that will work for them, and always look up the product's age range for your child.

It will save you more time in the end, and narrow down your choices. That being said, I do not recommend the Boogie Board Jot eWriter because it simply does not have enough great features to justify its price.

Not Enough Features

The price is affordable, but I recommend buying a product that is built better and offers you more features. I recommend reading about the Boogie Board Jot 4.5 LCD eWriter Clear View: Review.

First of all, the Boogie Board Jot eWriter (JT0220002) cannot save any of your files, and once you are done using it, they are erased.

It's also not enabled for Bluetooth so you can't bring your pictures or drawings to a computer, and save them for other people to see.

The Bluetooth feature is on a lot of Boogie boards today, but not on this brand. Also, for some reason on ours, the writing was always in a bold format, and we could not write a lot on one page.

The bold format frustrated my child because she wanted to draw bigger pictures, but there was just not enough space.

I recommend buying one with a larger screen and ability to connect with Bluetooth.
